Which self-adhesive PE foam suits the component?
For edge and light impact protection, a single-sided self-adhesive version may make sense: the adhesive fixes the PE foam to the component while the opposite side remains an exposed foam surface. If the tape must join two surfaces, examine a double-sided version. Its suitability depends, among other things, on the adhesive, the surfaces and the load.
The material name alone does not establish suitability for sealing. Specify the gap, compression and moisture exposure, and compare these conditions with the data for the specific article. What can self-adhesive PE foam be used for?
Depending on its construction, self-adhesive PE foam can be considered for sealing, light impact protection and mounting tasks. A single-sided version can protect an edge, for example, while a double-sided PE foam tape joins two surfaces. The function at the specific component is decisive. For a sealing task, the gap, compression and moisture exposure must suit the selected version. The term PE alone establishes neither a particular sealing performance nor suitability for every load.
What is the difference between single-sided and double-sided PE foam?
Single-sided self-adhesive PE foam is fixed to the component by one adhesive side; the opposite foam surface remains exposed for protection or cushioning. The self-adhesive RK 675 edge protection profile in the range is an example of this construction. A double-sided PE foam tape such as 3M 4496 has adhesive on both sides and is used to join two surfaces. The appropriate construction depends on the required function and the parts to be joined; its name does not establish general suitability.
Which technical data matter when choosing self-adhesive PE foam?
Compare the selected article's carrier material, adhesive, thickness, width and adhesive sides. For the stated RK 675 version, the product record specifies PE foam as the carrier, acrylic as the adhesive and a thickness of 5 mm. PE foam and acrylic are also documented for double-sided 3M 4496, but that construction serves a different task. Each specification applies only to the named article. The condition of the mating surface and the load must also be considered for your application.
Can PE foam be cut to size for mounting?
Yes. Krückemeyer GmbH converts self-adhesive PE foam into the required widths and formats for mounting. Provide the component, required geometry and intended function. The adhesive construction must also suit the surface. Cutting the material does not automatically change the properties of the foam or adhesive. The appropriate version and format for your application can be assessed using your requirements and the specific starting material.
Is PE foam waterproof when used as a seal?
Waterproof performance cannot be inferred from the term PE foam alone. The existing product description mentions moisture resistance and use for sealing, but the actual sealing effect depends on the selected construction and installation conditions. For a sealing enquiry, the gap, compression, mating surfaces and moisture exposure are relevant. Compare these conditions with the data for the specific product before choosing a version.
